Enhanced decolorization of azo dye solution by cadmium sulfide/multi-walled carbon nanotubes/polymer composite in combination with hydrogen peroxide under simulated solar light irradiation

文章摘要:Cadmium sulfide/multi-walled carbonnanotubes/polymernanocomposite(CdS/MWCNTs/polymer)wasfabricatedviaafacileprecipitation process bydepositingnanocrystallineCdSoncarbonnanotubes/crosslinkedchitosannanocompositeandcharacterizedbyX-raydiffraction (XRD) andtransmissionelectronmicroscope(TEM).Undersimulatedsolarlightirradiation,acombinationofCdS/MWCNTs/polymerandH2O2 was foundtobehighlyefficient forphotocatalyticdecolorizationofasolubleazodye,methylorange(MO),evenatneutralpHvalues.99.9%of MO solutionwassuccessfullydecolorizedafter90minundersimulatedsolarlightirradiationwith15mgL1 of initialMOconcentration, 1.0 mMofH2O2 concentration and0.70gL1 of photocatalystdosage.Experimentalresultsalsoindicatedthatthephotocatalyticdecolorization of methylorangesolutionwasstronglyinfluenced byoperationalparametersandfollowedasimplified Langmuir–Hinshelwood (L–H) kinetic model withhigh R2 values. WhentheCdS/MWCNTs/polymer–H2O2 system wasreusedforthe5thtime,thedecolorizationefficiency wasstill about 88.0%after90minundersimulatedsolarlightirradiation.Asaresult,theCdS/MWCNTs/polymer–H2O2 will potentiallyprovidecheaper and cleanermeansfortheeffectivetreatmentofdyeingeffluents sinceitincreasedsubstantiallytheefficiency ofdyedecolorizationandcould take fulladvantageofeconomicalsolarlight.
